Uniform Policy and Dress Code

Dress Code:  Student clothing should be comfortable, practical, and appropriate for elementary school.  Clothes depicting alcohol, drugs, sexual innuendo, inappropriate gestures or violence are not permitted.  Any clothing or accessory which is evident of membership or affiliation with any gang must not be worn.  All clothing is to fit within one size (plus or minus).  Maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment for our students is our top concern.

Shirts/Blouses:           Shirts and blouses should be white or navy blue, plain and clean with short or long sleeves.  Polo-type shirts are preferred, but button-up shirts are fine as well.  Tank tops, muscle shirts, t-shirts, bare midriffs, tube tops, or spaghetti strap tops are not allowed.  Johnson spirit shirts may be worn on Friday’s only.

Bottoms:         Dark blue pants, skirts, jumpers, or shorts.  Denim blue jeans are allowed.  Pants must stay up, with no underwear displayed.  Pants and shorts must be hemmed.  Pajama bottoms, sweat pants, and spandex pants are not allowed.

Headgear:      Hats may be worn outside for sun protection or warmth.  Hats are removed in all buildings.  Hats worn backwards or sideways are not allowed.  Bandanas are not allowed at any time.

Outerwear:    All jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts and other outerwear should be labeled inside with the student’s name.  Logos, if present, should be appropriate to the school environment.  Blue is the preferred color.

Shoes:             Shoes should be appropriate for school and playground.  Elevated heels, backless sandals, flip flops, skate shoes and open toed shoes are not appropriate.  Recess and P.E. require appropriate footwear.

Other:             Dangling earrings, inappropriate tattoos, fake fingernails and make-up are not allowed.  Colored hair is prohibited, except during school sponsored spirit activities.

School uniforms are mandatory.  The State Legislature and the District have prescribed guidelines that must be followed.  If you need help with uniforms, please call our office for assistance (566-3480).

A student’s appearance cannot disrupt student learning and / or activities.  Parents may be called to bring appropriate footwear or a change of clothing.
